LUIS ENRIQUE


Luis Enrique Mejia Lopez, aka LUIS ENRIQUE, many people believe that he is Puertorican, but he was born on September 28th, 1962 at Somoto, Nicaragua, and since his childhood was surrounded by a family where music was important, his desire of playing music was latent. With the enthusiasm to grow musically he went to live in Los Angeles, USA, and since 1978, inspired by jazz and rhythm & blues, began to add new sounds and create his compositions.

 

He started to play his current musical genre SALSA when he realized that he could make music for dancing, without sacrificing a good message, recognizing that Ruben Blades was the artist who showed him the way. The right opportunity comes from a hearing in Miami to find the singer in a salsa group, and the demo that Luis recorded same afternoon let him to discover its synergy with the music tropical, following this discovery Luis released his first record production in the United States, "Amor De Medianoche ", released in 1987.

 

In 1988, Puerto Rico became his second home where he recorded his second album "Amor y Alegría", with immediate hit songs like "Desesperado", "Tu No Le Amas, Le Temes," and "Compréndelo".

 

The career of Luis Enrique gains strength and his new productios became n.1 in sales, Luis release "Mi Mundo", "Luces Del Alma", "Luis Enrique-En Vivo," "Una Historia Diferente", "Dilema" and "Luis Enrique "in addition to a dozen releases in Costa Rica, Venezuela, Mexico and Nicaragua.

 

The rest is history known by millions of people throughout Latin America, the big success managed Luis to get the nickname "Prince of Salsa".

 

His talent was also marked by collaborations with stars like Gloria Estefan, in "Abriendo Puertas" and "Mi Tierra" where the percussion intro of the song were his congas. He also worked as a musician in the song "Maria" by Ricky Martin and for Chayanne, Arturo Sandoval, Alex Acuna and Collective Soul, among others.

 

He received various gold and platinum records in his long career, he has added three Grammy Awards on five nominations, winning three in the last months, five Lo Nuestro awards, two awards Ronda in Venezuela, as well as awards Huaco of Panama, TV y Novelas Mexico and Colombia, awards Aplausos, and ASCAP and ACE in the U.S. His popularity even allows him to be an actor in the telenovela "Al Son Del Amor." After this further success in 1996 "Genesis", an album that's quite close to pop, and ends his recording contract with Sony. In 1999 he produced “Timbalaye”, you see the maturity gained over the years as a composer, performer and producer.

 

With the new millennium and after five years of production, he recorded a salsa album again but in an innovative and fresh way, and he also opens his record label Chazz music, releasing "Evolución" (2000) and "Transparent" (2002) and after a break of four years a more pop version of "Dentro y Fuera" (2006), he dedicated himself to several roles: producer, songwriter, arranger, composer and performer.

 

In 2009, with various lives like the cats, Luis returns to reinvent himself, putting all his passion into a new album entitled "Ciclos" with the top producer Sergio George, a name that, in the salsa world, is so famous and Luis Enrique is again an International star. And Planet Records does not miss its opportunity to get the rights of the album for the European territory.

 

In November 2009, Ciclos wins Latin Grammy for "Best Salsa Album" and even with "Yo No Sé Mañana" written by Jorge Luis Piloto, Jorge Villamizar, which is the first single from the CD, won the second award in the category "Best Tropical Song”. In January 2010, still wins a Grammy in the category of Best Tropical Latin Album ", a triumphant return!

 

Luis Enrique, after three Grammy Awardswins, in 2011 released the album "Soy y Seré", a CD with 11 songs in which he duets with the star of bachata Prince Royce, all tracks written by Jorge Luis Piloto, Jorge Villamizar and the songwriter Alex Cuba.
