PRINCE ROYCEGeoffrey Royce Rojas is the Latin artist who has sold more records worldwide in 2011, the real King of Bachata. He was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, a city that has influenced him a lot artistically. He is definitely one of the superstars of bachata. He sings in English and Spanish and started his career with an album produced by the great producer Sergio George.
His passion for bachata is not only a coincidence: both his parents come from the country of bachata, the Dominican Republic. He also formed an inevitable sense of pride and a strong cultural identity with the Caribbean island. “I feel 101% Dominican - he says - I don’t like to hide my origins”. Although he is new in the music biz, Geoffrey is not a novice and is a great professional.
Since he was a boy, he liked the world of pop music and the dancing. He immediately started to participate to many talent shows. But what helped him most is the fact that his family has always believed in him and has always helped. The second factor for his success was that he grew up in New York.
“I immediately understood that everything around me was style and trend. So I started to create my kind of music looking for something special and unique, that made the difference”. At the age of thirteen, he discovered a new hobby that changed his life. He began to write poetry that became songs. When he was fifteen, he discovered his destiny when he met Andres Hidalgo, which was his first manager and understood he would be able to sing bachata. “It was a surprise because I sang pop music and I did not think that the Dominican tradition was my destiny. But now I'm proud of it”.
His debut album "Prince Royce" offers many bachata songs rearranged and mixed with other modern rhythms written by Geoffrey.
The new album "Phase II", released in the spring of 2012, reached No. 1 Bilboard Latin, in the first week!
